Fifth Post: Athena

I would recommend this blog for information about the Greek Goddesses. There is some of the fact missing from here but it explains the basics pretty well. Athena is the Greek Goddess of wisdom and war. She is the patron Goddess of the city of Athens. Her sacred animal is an owl.  She is a master weaver and created the most beautiful tapistries. She developed many inventions to make life easier for the humans, including the bridle, chariot, and plow. Her warrior She is the daughter of Zeus and Metis. Zeus found out that Metis was pregnant, Zeus, fearing that she would bear a son who would be mightier than him, eat her. Since Gods and Goddesses can't die they both lived inside Zeus undigested. Metis fashioned a robe and helmet for the daughter. As she shaped the metal into the helmet she caused Zeus to have horrible headaches. To relieve his father’s pain, Hephaestus split his skull open with his mighty ax, and Athena emerged, fully grown and wearing the robe and helmet her mother had made. Zeus was astonished by his beautiful daughter and she became his favorite. She is the one who turned Medusa in a ugly women would could turn a person stone stone with one look into her eyes. She also turned Arachne in to a spider for thinking she was a better weaver that Athena. She has a slit tendecy to turn people into ugly and scary creatures if the offend her.

Fourth Post: Medusa

This blog will be about Medusa. Medusa was born with two sisters, Sthenno and Euryale to the Sea Titans Poreys and Ceto.  Medusa the most famous of the three Gorgons. Her sisters were immortal but Medusa was not. So therefore she could be killed. She was once a beautiful woman, but she offended Athena by having sex with Poseidon in her pure temple. Athena turned her hair into snakes and made her face so hideous that all who looked at her were turned to stone. Medusa was with child by Poseidon when Perseus killed her. He accomplished this with the help of the gods who equipped him with a reflective shield, sickle, winged boots and helm of invisibility. Khrysaor and Pegasus sprang from Medusa's blood when she died. Medusa's head retained its petrifying power even after her death this is why they put her image on Greek armor. Most people dislike Medusa because she is ugly and will turn you to stone but I find I don’t dislike her for that but for what she did in Athena’s temple. People just don’t know the back story.
