Eight Post: How to Slay Medusa

The best way to kill Medusa is by following these few steps. Medusa is very dangerous  because  her gaze will turn you to stone. To achieve this task you will need the following equipment: a reflective shield , winged sandals, a sickle, Cap of Darkness , a magic wallet, eye from the Graeae.

1. First, get a reflective shield from Athena & winged sandals and sickle from Hermes.

2. Next, find the Nymphs of the North and get the Cap of Darkness and magic wallet from them.

3. Third, put the cap of Darkness on so you are invisible and sneak into the Graeae's lair and steal their eye and make them tell you were to find Medusa. Give it back and thank them for their service.

4. Then, find Medusa and her sisters' lair and use the shield's reflective part to find were Medusa and her sisters' are sleeping.

5. Fifth, use your sickle and cut off Medusa's head.

6. Sixth, use the winged sandals to fly away from her angry sisters.

8. Finally, put Medusa's head into a bag.

Never look into Medusa's eyes you will instantly turn to stone. Use your reflective shield. Put Medusa's head into a bag because it can still turn people to stone. It is the best way to do it because you can't kill Medusa unless you do all of this.

Seventh post: Interview an Expert

I am interviewing Richard Martin a Greek Mythology expert at Stanford University. What made you want to be an expert in Greek Mythology?  I was always interested at 10,11,12 years old before you even and read books about in and learn somethings about Greek and Latin and found it to be more fun. What is your most favorite myth? Uhhm I have many favorites but my favorites would have to be when Ulysses coming home after the Trojan War and Hermes being related to him and Athena's.  Are there still people that believe in Greek mythology? Actually there are not just in Greece but other places in the world. There are groups called neo-pagens and they meet up talk about and worship the gods, and make sacrifices. Which god do you think had the most influence in Greek Mythology, and Why?  Zeus because he is the king of the gods because of thunder and lightning and threatening to turn them into something. Hades maybe because he can threaten stuff too. Do you think there are some gods or beasts that has been taken from another religion or myths in Greek Mythology? Which? Yeah, well not particular gods but the story pattern. The beginning of the world the earth and sky, Kronos and Rhea and Zeus and his family. Scholars have found in the middle eastern countries but the names have changed other than that no. It is hard to say that the Greeks had borrowed from others.                                                                       He is right about that he was interested in Greek Mythology before I started liking it. I just started liking it this year. I found it interesting that Ulysses is related to Hermes (the god of messengers, thieves, travelers, and merchants). I was happy there was someone else who likes the myth of Athena. I did not know for sure that there were people who still believed in all of this. I sort of thought there were people who believed all of this stuff exsisted and still continues to exsiste. I also did not know people still made sacrifices to or worshiped the gods. I sort of thought that Zeus would have the most influence on Greek Mythology because he is the king of the gods. But I really did not expect he would say Hades may influence Greek Mythology. I did not really know that the story pattern is what was copied in the myths. I think that he is a very intellegent person who knows a multitude of thing about Greek Mythology.

Sixth Post:Poseidon and Zeus

http://blogs.yis.ac.jp/19vettorettij/2013/02/24/poseidon-and-ares/  Poseidon is the Greek god of the sea.  His mother and father are the titans Kronos and Rhea. His brothers and sisters are Zeus, God of the sky and thunder, Hera, Goddess of women and marriage, Demeter, Goddess of agriculture, Hades, God of the dead and the Underworld, and Hestia, Goddess of the hearth. Poseidon and all of his brothers and sister except Zeus were swallowed by their father because he was afraid of the prophecy that told him one of his son would kill him as he kill his father. Rhea gave Kronos a rock to eat instead of Zeus. When Zeus was all grown up he feed his father a mixture of mustard and wine that made him vomit. Kronos vomited Poseidon and all of his brothers and sisters up. Then Zeus destroyed Kronos with his own scythe and threw him into the depths of Tartarus.  Poseidon's wife is Amphitrite. His children are all cyclops Theseus, Triton, Polyphemus, Belus, Agenor, Neleus, and Atlas. The Cyclops made him his trident. Poseidon had a competition with Athena over the city Athens. Athena created an olive tree; Poseidon produced a saltwater spring. The people of Athens thought Athena's gift was better. You can kind of see why the people Athens thought Athena's gift was better.Poseidon got angry anyway and flooded the place. Once Poseidon even tried to seduce the beautiful sea nymph Scylla, his wife, Amphitrite, became jealous and transformed her into a horrible sea monster with six dogs' heads. Scylla terrorized sailors, and she devoured several of Odysseus's companions. Poseidon symbols are a trident, Dolphin, Horse. He created the horse. The island of Atlantis was the chosen domain of Poseidon.  Poseidon has been call Earth-Shaker and Father of horses. He can make earthquakes. He is one of the most known god in Greek mythology. His lives on Mount Olympus with the rest of the Olympian gods and goddesses.

Fifth Post: Athena

I would recommend this blog for information about the Greek Goddesses. There is some of the fact missing from here but it explains the basics pretty well. Athena is the Greek Goddess of wisdom and war. She is the patron Goddess of the city of Athens. Her sacred animal is an owl.  She is a master weaver and created the most beautiful tapistries. She developed many inventions to make life easier for the humans, including the bridle, chariot, and plow. Her warrior She is the daughter of Zeus and Metis. Zeus found out that Metis was pregnant, Zeus, fearing that she would bear a son who would be mightier than him, eat her. Since Gods and Goddesses can't die they both lived inside Zeus undigested. Metis fashioned a robe and helmet for the daughter. As she shaped the metal into the helmet she caused Zeus to have horrible headaches. To relieve his father’s pain, Hephaestus split his skull open with his mighty ax, and Athena emerged, fully grown and wearing the robe and helmet her mother had made. Zeus was astonished by his beautiful daughter and she became his favorite. She is the one who turned Medusa in a ugly women would could turn a person stone stone with one look into her eyes. She also turned Arachne in to a spider for thinking she was a better weaver that Athena. She has a slit tendecy to turn people into ugly and scary creatures if the offend her.

Fourth Post: Medusa

This blog will be about Medusa. Medusa was born with two sisters, Sthenno and Euryale to the Sea Titans Poreys and Ceto.  Medusa the most famous of the three Gorgons. Her sisters were immortal but Medusa was not. So therefore she could be killed. She was once a beautiful woman, but she offended Athena by having sex with Poseidon in her pure temple. Athena turned her hair into snakes and made her face so hideous that all who looked at her were turned to stone. Medusa was with child by Poseidon when Perseus killed her. He accomplished this with the help of the gods who equipped him with a reflective shield, sickle, winged boots and helm of invisibility. Khrysaor and Pegasus sprang from Medusa's blood when she died. Medusa's head retained its petrifying power even after her death this is why they put her image on Greek armor. Most people dislike Medusa because she is ugly and will turn you to stone but I find I don’t dislike her for that but for what she did in Athena’s temple. People just don’t know the back story.

Third Post: Abduction of Persephone

http://wiki.answers.com/Q/What_was_Persephone%27s_story  is about the Abduction of Persephone. Persephone is the daughter of Zeus & Demeter. She is the goddess of spring, queen of the Underworld and wife of Hades. Persephone is one of the most beautiful goddess. She was picking flowers when Hades saw her. He was astonished by her beauty. He opened a hole in the ground and took her to the Underworld. Demeter searched for Persephone when she went missing. When Demeter realized Persephone was taken to the Underworld she put a curse on the Earth so it would not produce any crops.  Zeus tried to get Demeter to remove the curse but she wouldn't until Hades would give Persephone back. Zeus sent Hermes to the Underworld to try and get Persephone back. Hades agreed that he would let Persephone go back and he fed her 6 pomegranate seeds before she left. Because she ate the food of the dead she was tied to the Underworld and to Hades. Zeus was forced to make a compromise between Hades and Demeter. He said that Persephone would spend four months in the Underworld as the queen and wife of Hades. The other eight would be spent on Olympus with her mother. Demeter continued to neglect the Earth when Persephone is in the Underworld. Th eight months is Spring and Summer and the other four is Fall and Winter.

First Post:Perseus

http://olympianmythology.blogspot.com/http://olympianmythology.blogspot.com/ is a blog about Greek Mythology. I pick a blog post about Perseus the son of Danae and Zeus. Acrisius lock Danae in a tower  because the Oracle of Apollo told him that the son of Danae would kill him. To prevent that from happening he lock Danae in a tower. The tower did not have any doors so she could not have any contact with anybody. The tower did have a window and Zeus snuck into the tower because he wanted Danae to be his wife. She accepted his proposal. Acrisius found out the and went up to the tower and found Danae sitting there with her baby Perseus.

Acrisius got very angry because that is exactly why he locked her in there to prevent her from having a child. He lock Danae and Perseus in a large chest and sent them out to sea. They floated to the island of Seriphos and rescued by Dictys (the brother of the king of Seriphos). Polydectes wanted Danae for his wife but she would refuse. Polydectes thought up a plan to get rid of Perseus because he always protected Danae. Polydectes pretended to marry someone else and everyone had to bring a wedding present. Perseus had no money so he could not bring any presents and Polydectes called him a lazy-good for nothing. Perseus said that he could get any gift in the world he wanted.

Polydectes told him he wanted the head of Medusa the gorgon. Perseus searched for the gorgon for days. Athena and Hermes met him while he was searching. Hermes gave Perseus
his winged sandals and sickle. The sickle Cronos used to over power his father Uranus. Athena gave Perseus a reflective shield that could protect him from Medusa's gaze. Hermes told Perseus to find the Graeae because they would tell him where the Nymphs of the North were. He found the Graeae who were three old women who owned and fought over one eye.

He stole the eye and would only give it back if the told him where the nymphs were. They told him where the nymphs were and he gave back the eye. He found the Nymphs of the North and they gave him a cap of darkness that turned him invisible when he put it on. And also a magic wallet, and told him were the Gorgon's lair was. Once he found the lair he saw that Medusa and her sister were sleeping. He went to where she slept and cut her head off. Then her sisters awoke and attacked Perseus, but escaped. On his way back home he came across Atlas who carried the weight of the world on his shoulders.

Perseus felt sorry for his and turned him to stone so he would not have to bare the weight any more. He also found Andromeda who was chained to a rock as a sacrifice to a sea monster. And just as the sea monster arose he turned it to stone. He took her home and asked her father King Cepheus to marry her, King Cepheus agreed. They stopped at Larisa so Perseus could compete in some games and he hit Acrisius and killed him. The Oracle of Apollo's prophecy had finally come true that Perseus would one day kill his father. When they got to Seriphos the met Dictys and he told them that Polydectes never really married Danae. He got extremely angry and went to the castle and turned Polydectes and his courtiers into stone.

Perseus and Andromeda lived long happy lives. Their descendants became kings, and he greatest was Heracles the strongest man in the world. Dionysus killed Perseus and he and Andromeda were put into the sky as constellations.
