Third Post: Abduction of Persephone

She is the goddess of spring, queen of the Underworld and wife of Hades. Persephone is one of the most beautiful goddess. She was picking flowers when Hades saw her. He was astonished by her beauty. He opened a hole in the ground and took her to the Underworld. Demeter searched for Persephone when she went missing. When Demeter realized Persephone was taken to the Underworld she put a curse on the Earth so it would not produce any crops.  Zeus tried to get Demeter to remove the curse but she wouldn't until Hades would give Persephone back. Zeus sent Hermes to the Underworld to try and get Persephone back. Hades agreed that he would let Persephone go back and he fed her 6 pomegranate seeds before she left. Because she ate the food of the dead she was tied to the Underworld and to Hades. Zeus was forced to make a compromise between Hades and Demeter. He said that Persephone would spend four months in the Underworld as the queen and wife of Hades. The other eight would be spent on Olympus with her mother. Demeter continued to neglect the Earth when Persephone is in the Underworld. Th eight months is Spring and Summer and the other four is Fall and Winter.
